The Legacy Chase Pony Races • 9/30/23

The Legacy is offering Small and Shetland Pony flat races this year as well as Leadline Trot. USPR rules will be observed and all race questions should be pointed toward USPR. Leadline entries may lead their own ponies, but rules must be observed. No Cantering. All ponies must have a current negative coggins test before being permitted on the grounds or to compete. Ponies must run off their own trailers and are not permitted in the stable area.

DIVISIONS (will not necessarily run in this order)
Small Pony Flat- For small ponies 12.2 hands or under with riders of appropriate size. About 1/4 mile
Shetland Pony Flat- For shetland ponies under 44″ with riders of appropriate size. About 1/4 mile
Leadline Trot Division I- for ponies under 14.2h with riders not to have had their 7th bday as of the first of the year.
Leadline Trot Division II- for ponies under 14.2h with riders not to have had their 5th bday as of the first of the year.

For flat races approved helmets, safety stirrups, neck strap/yoke, overgirth are required. Leadline must have an approved helmet and are encouraged to have all safety equipment.

WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase at the Devon Horse Show

The Washington International Horse Show Shetland Pony Steeplechase sponsored by Charles Owen ran its first two legs this past Memorial Day weekend May 27th and May 28th ad the Devon Horse Show.  Six lucky pint-sized jockeys and their ponies were chosen to perform an exhibition Shetland steeplechase on Sunday and Monday. Paddy “The Champ” Young, joined by his children Rory and Cece and wife Leslie, served as the official starter for the Shetland jump race both days. Winning on Sunday was Tuesday with Chloe Canter in the irons and Olney Smarty Pants with owner/rider Sophie Perri aboard took home the trophy on Monday. The first ones under the wire weren’t the only winners at Devon, as sponsor Charles Owen supplied a new jockey skullcap for the rider deemed by show management as having the safest trip.  Ki’Mani Davenport aboard Olney Kushion on Sunday and Olney Oh My with James Wyatt (son of trainer Todd and jockey Blair Wyatt) on Monday took home Safest Rider Awards.
